Wednesday 1 July. Happy birthday bro!! Brother John’s birthday today ( won’t embarrass him by quoting his age – but he could get a seniors card !!!!). What a lovely spot is Lady Musgrave, she should have been a charming lady. This morning we got up and tootled into the shore for a snorkel – it was lovely, lots of fish, a few stingrays and coral galore. We finished up with a circumnavigation of the island on foot and now it is back to the boat for a bit of R&R. There was a brief pause to watch a pair of whales splashing about as we walked. It was just delightful. The afternoon sort of escaped really. We dropped a line over the side to try to catch tea. As usual Chris hooked up first and lost the bloody lot – fancy new swivel, classy tracer all decorating some bejewelled fish as we speak. Chris did catch one nice fish, a Potato Cod, but of course it is a protected species – so back it went. Chris has retired early to watch a movie in bed and I am about to start a new book (what a good feeling that is !!) The breeze has come up from the NW at 15 or so knots but I keep telling myself it is dropping as darkness sets in, but I think I am kidding myself. As the tide drops in these lagoons so the wind and wave action is diminished – so I could be a victim of that – but we have plenty of chain out and all the lights on our new neighbours are in the same relative positions ( I hope it is like that when I wake up !!). Tomorrow who knows what we will do hopefully go for a snorkel – but it is supposed to come in 15/20 knots from the SW tomorrow – hope they are wrong. Still no telephone got a momentary connection on the cabin roof today, enough to receive two SMS but could not send the one I wrote as the connection dropped out. I admire the men and women who did this long ago without phones, radios etc – boy they were tough.
